Objectives & Vision
Road Safety Council aims to leverage cross-disciplinary teaching trends STEAM (i.e. Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics) and smart city concepts to guide primary and secondary students to examine daily road safety situations in Hong Kong.
Using innovative perspectives and STEAM knowledge and skills, students are encouraged to propose practical improvement solutions to reduce traffic accidents and their severity.
Competition Streams & Rules
Primary School Stream (P1–P6)
Eligibility
- Full-time P1–P6 students enrolled in Hong Kong primary schools in the 2026–27 academic year.
- Teams of 1–6 members, with a teacher adviser.
- Students from international schools are also welcome to participate.

Secondary School Stream (F1–F6)
Eligibility
- Full-time F1–F6 students enrolled in Hong Kong secondary schools in the 2026–27 academic year.
- Teams of 1–6 members, with a teacher adviser.
- Students from international schools are also welcome to participate.

- Primary School Stream: Recognizes the primary school with the highest number of participating entries.
- Secondary School Stream: Recognizes the secondary school with the highest number of participating entries.
Best AI Award
The Best AI Award recognizes the solution that demonstrates the highest level of technical excellence and innovation in artificial intelligence and machine learning while directly addressing real-world road safety challenges.
It is evaluated on two key criteria:
AI & Machine Learning Innovation & Data Relevance (50%):Depth, creativity, and technical sophistication of the core AI models or algorithms and effectively utilize relevant data. | Road Safety Impact (50%):Potential to prevent traffic incidents, protect road users. |
Best AI Award
The Best AI Award recognizes the solution that demonstrates the highest level of technical excellence and innovation in artificial intelligence and machine learning while directly addressing real-world road safety challenges.

Clear potential of the idea to reduce the number and severity of traffic accidents in Hong Kong.
Practicality & Feasibility
Ease of implementing the proposed solution onto existing Hong Kong traffic systems, cost, user friendliness and support from the public.
STEAM & Smart City Integration
Effective application of scientific, technical, engineering, artistic, or mathematical concepts to solve road safety issues.
Creativity & Innovation
Originality and creativity of the proposed solution.

Submission Requirements
Each participating team must fulfill the following submission requirements by March 31, 2027 (23:59) via the official Google Form:
1. Theme Selection
Select at least one of the designated competition themes.
2. Project Proposal
Submit a PowerPoint presentation of no more than 15 slides, outlining:
- Problem Statement & Context
- Proposed STEAM Solution & Concept Design
- Feasibility & Social Impact
3. Prototype Presentation
Submit a link to a 3-minute video presentation demonstrating and summarising the project prototype. Only the video link is required; no physical prototype needs to be submitted for online adjudication.
- The video may showcase visual prototypes/models (e.g., 3D models, AIoT hardware/software demos, or UI mock-ups).
